BROWN-FORMAN POSTS AN EXCELLENT FOURTH QUARTER
Brown-Forman posted a 29% profit rise in their fourth quarter earnings for the three months ending April 30, thanks to premium brands such as Jack Daniel’s and Southern Comfort (SoCo). Revenue increased 16%. Chief Paul Varga said it was one of the strongest performances in the company’s history.
Jack’s volume increased high single-digits in the quarter and 8% for the year in worldwide depletions, while brand gross profit increased at a double-digit rate in fiscal 2006. “Consistent, thoughtful brand building and consumer loyalty has driven Jack Daniels to become the best selling whiskey in the world and perhaps the best performing brand in the spirits industry,” said Paul.
Southern Comfort went up mid-single digits in the quarter, inline with full-year growth of 5% worldwide and 6% in the U.S., its largest market. Finlandia Vodka (+15%) and Fetzer California Wines also posted solid sales volumes and profit growth.
The company's premium developing brands, such as Sonoma-Cutrer, Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniel's Single Barrel, and Woodford Reserve, recorded impressive double-digit growth in volume and profits.
The company also announced that they have completed their acquisition of Chambord Liqueur from Chatam International. B-F acquired the Chambord trademark, the French manufacturing operations where the brand is made, and the 20 employees who work at the Chambord facility.
