GOV. RENDELL TWEAKS AT PENNSYLVANIA’S SHIPPING LAW
Pennsylvania Gov. Rendell has made a proposal that would allow state residents to legally order direct wine shipments from a majority of out-of-state wineries -- granted the wineries charge Pennsylvania’s 18% “emergency” tax.
Rendell would create a new license for out-of-state wineries and limit all wineries to a 125,000 gallon cap, down from the current limit of 200,000 gallons. The direct-shipping permit would also allow wineries to ship up to three cases per month to Pennsylvania consumers, but Pennsylvania wineries would lose their right to ship directly to restaurants.
However, as a way to help restaurants with liquor licenses, the proposal would allow them to sell two bottles of wine at a time for customers to take home.
