PERNOD WON’T GO WITHOUT A FIGHT
Pernod isn’t taking the Havana Club ruling lightly. After the US Patent and Trademark Office refused to allow the joint-venture between Pernod and the Cuban government to continue selling Havana rum in the U.S., Bacardi gladly took over the reigns. However, the company stated:
“Pernod Ricard will vigorously defend its rights, and those of the consumer, by appealing to the relevant Court against the rejection of the application to renew the US trademark registration and against any use of the Havana Club trademark for any rum, which is not Cuban.”
Apparently, the 10-year battle between Pernod and Bacardi has yet to be put at rest.
