ANOTHER HIGH PROFILE ACQUISTION IN OREGON WINE COUNTRY

Oregon’s A to Z Wineworks announced plans to purchase Rex Hill Vineyards on Monday (Nov. 6) for an undisclosed sum, making it the largest winery in the state.

Founded four years ago, A to Z has gone from producing 2,600 cases in 2002 to over 100,000 cases this year, and now pushes past Willamette Valley Vineyards and Bridgeview Vineyard as the biggest winery in Oregon. Purchasing Rex Hill Vineyards also gives A to Z a tasting room only 20 miles from Portland.

According to local reports, Rex Hill is the second high-profile Oregon winery to change hands this year after Ste. Michelle Wine Estates bought out Erath Vineyards. The recent escalation in acquisitions could be a sign that the Oregon wine industry is maturing.
