RESEARCHERS DISCOVER WAY TO REMOVE CORK TAINT

Speaking of cork taint (or stink that is): a new compound, named Triex, apparently has the capability to remove TCA taint from wine without altering the taste or aroma.

After four years of research, G3 Enterprises and Filtrox are set to release the patent-pending compound to the industry at the annual Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento January 24.

"We've treated more than a million gallons of wine and it removes TCA to non-detectible levels," said Charles Pierce, general manager of G3's Closure Division, in a statement.

"Triex is more effective than other methods and doesn't change the flavor of the wine," said Charles. "It's also a lot easier to use and less expensive."
