AUSSIES STRIKE A DEAL WITH THE EU

The EU and Australia struck a deal to protect one another’s place names. After the agreement goes into effect, Aussie winemakers will no longer be able to feature names like Champagne or Port on their labels. In exchange, Australia also gained protection for its place names in Europe, along with recognition of some Australian winemaking techniques and a simplified certification process for exports to the EU.

The deal still needs to be formally approved by the EU's 27 member states and Australia.
