EU COURT RULES AGAINST SWEDEN’S BAN ON DIRECT SHIPMENTS

The European Union’s Court of Justice (the EU’s highest court) ruled that Sweden has no right to ban individuals from ordering alcoholic beverages online from other EU nations. The country’s state-owned liquor store monopoly, Systembolaget, was reportedly using “disproportionate measures” to limit Swedish citizens from bringing beer or wine into the country.

The case will now be referred back to Sweden's Supreme Court, which is expected to issue its own ruling in the next months, which is likely to follow the EU ruling.
