WOODFORD RESERVE RELEASES WINE FINISHED BOURBON

Brown-Forman is releasing a new bourbon, entitled Woodford Reserve Sonoma-Cutrer Finish, that will age several months in chardonnay barrels shipped from B-F’s Sonoma-Cutrer Vineyards. Its ultimate goal is to create a bigger following for Woodford Reserve in the competitive super-premium bourbon category, and snatch some wine drinkers along the way.

Bourbon, by definition, must be matured in charred oak barrels, but the distiller is free to "finish" the bourbon in a second barrel type once it has met its maturation requirements.

Sonoma-Cutrer Finish will be sold in 18 states and will retail at $89.99 for a 750 ml bottle. Only 900 cases are being produced.

Overall, sales in the bourbon category are up about 2%, driven mainly by demand for premium and super-premium brands.
