CALIFORNIA GRAPE GROWERS GRAPPLE WITH IMMIGRANT RULING

California grape growers are preparing to face a new law signed by President Bush last week that gives employers 90 days to resolve discrepancies between employee records and the Social Security Administration. Or, in other words, three months to fire most illegal immigrant workers or face up to $10,000 in fines. Many in the industry say this could put a chunk of grape farmers out of business. On the other hand, mechanical farming is becoming increasingly popular and could help stave off some of the negative effects.
