SENATE DECLARES SEPTEMBER “NATIONAL BOURBON MONTH.”
The US Senate has passed a resolution declaring September 2007 “National Bourbon Heritage Month.” This is a notable win for the spirits industry as DISCUS and other groups work to share the industry’s heritage with consumers. Beam Global issued a press release “applauding” the decision, and rightfully so, as the company has strived to improve its bourbon sales this fiscal year.
“America's distilling heritage is intertwined with the history of the nation,” said DISCUS vp Frank Coleman. “This legislation will help bring that history back into focus for many Americans, and help us celebrate our bourbon heritage—responsibly!”
During a conference call earlier this year, Beam declared 2007 the ‘Year of Bourbon’ as the category continues to grow in popularity. In honor and celebration of the national declaration, Beam Global will host celebratory events throughout the month of September.
Since 2003, high-end bourbons have seen revenue grow from $450 million to over $500 million in the US, some 2.2 million cases, according to DISCUS. High-end bourbon sales accounted for 8% of total spirits growth in 2006.
