SHOULD THE DRINKING AGE BE LOWERED?

There have been several articles this week about lowering the drinking age, so we finally decided it was worth mentioning. Of course this is a highly controversial topic and there are two sides to the story, as there always is.

A group of supporters argue that raising the drinking age to 21 has not reduced drinking, but has instead driven minors to binge drink on the sneak.

“Just like during national Prohibition, the law has pushed and forced underage drinking and youthful drinking underground, where we have no control over it,” said David J. Hanson, an alcohol policy expert at the State University of New York-Potsdam, to MSN.com.

However, supporters of the current drinking age say it saves lives. An article in Sunday’s Parade magazine claims 78% of people do not believe the drinking age should be lowered, so don’t count on changes being made anytime soon.
