TODD WILLIAMS, FOUNDER OF TOAD HOLLOW, PASSES AWAY

We regret to report that Todd Williams, co-founder of Russian River Valley’s Toad Hollow Vineyards, has passed away. Todd died Tuesday (August 14) at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in Sonoma County as a result of heart failure. He was 69.

In 1993 Todd partnered with Rodney Strong, who had just sold his namesake winery, to create Toad Hollow Vineyards. They released just 3,000 cases in 1994 and have grown to over 100,000 cases in 2007, according to winebusiness.com. Since then, the company has added new brands including Eye of the Toad, Cacophony, Rod's Pride and Askew.

Todd, otherwise known as Dr. Toad, was a well-loved figure in the California wine industry. We actually had the opportunity to meet him via email, where he shared his insight on the current “critter-craze” in the wine industry. He was a very gracious man indeed and we feel privileged to have had that exchange. Our thoughts are with his family.
