WSJ: Bill Newlands and Others Leaving Beam

FILED APRIL 18, 2014

Dear Client:

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that three executives have signaled their "intention to resign" from Beam Inc. in the wake of the Suntory Holdings acquisition. Bill Newlands, president of the North American region and cfo Bob Probst will resign effective May 31, and corporate controller Leo Mierzwicki is resigning as of July 10.

Bob told the Journal that Leo and he "each made personal decisions to resign and pursue other professional opportunities." But according to the article, Beam says: "For both, their decisions were linked to the changes of their roles as a result of the takeover."

However, Bill has entered into a consulting agreement with Beam North America "to provide strategic guidance...about three days a week."

The Beam/Suntory deal is still expected to close April 28.

Until Monday, Emily
