Sazerac has acquired UK-based The Last Drop Distillers, an independent bottling company that seeks out "the finest, rarest and most exclusive" spirits in the world.
Last Drop was founded in 2008 by industry veterans and longtime co-workers James Espey and Tom Jago, who were instrumental in the creation of products like Malibu and Johnnie Walker Blue and Baileys. Since its founding, the company has released about 592 bottles and six products: four blended Scotch whiskys, one single malt Scotch, and one Cognac, with a 1961 single-grain whiskey coming soon, according to Newsweek. The company is currently run by their two daughters, Beanie Espey and Rebecca Jago.
"This acquisition marks the next stage of The Last Drop Distillers story that will see us take the brand into the next phase, while retaining and building on our core values of exclusivity, craft and excellence," says James in a release.
Sazerac says the acquisition will allow it to play in the super-premium craft market, as well as expand its European footprint. Financial terms were not disclosed.
