Supplier M&A Activity Jumped in 2017


2017 has been one of the busiest years for supplier deals in recent memory. Thus far, we've reported on just over 30 deals that resulted in new ownership, and 4 "investments" made in smaller companies. Those numbers represent a significant increase from our last tally in 2015 when we counted 19 total transactions. [see WSD 11-30-2015].

Constellation Ventures invests in Catoctin Creek Distillery.

Vintage Wine Estates wins bid for Cameron Hughes Wine ($4 million- $5 million).

Stoli Group USA acquires Kentucky Owl whiskey.


Campari takes full ownership of Bulldog London Dry Gin ($58.4 million).

Private equity firm Homestead Capital buys Sage Creek Vineyard.

Bacardi takes minority stake in the Ilegal Mezcal.


Edgewater Spirits acquires Wodka Vodka from Panache Beverage.

E&J Gallo buys Napa Valley's Stagecoach Vineyard.

Josh Phelps sells his interest in the Taken Wine Company to Trinchero Family Estates.

Davos Brands acquires controlling interest in Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila.


Delicato Family Vineyards picks up Blossom Hill Winery from Treasury Wine Estates, renaming it the Alba Coast Winery.

WX Brands acquires Jamieson Ranch Vineyards portfolio and the Bread & Butter Wines.

Terlato Wine Group acquires Klipsun Vineyards in Washington state.

William Grant & Sons takes full ownership of its longtime partner Tuthilltown Spirits.

Silver Oak owners acquire Ovid vineyard and winery in St. Helena's Pritchard Hill ($50 million).

Michael David Winery purchases Silver Oak Cellars' Geyserville property.


Portland-based Eastside Distilling buys a majority stake in fellow Oregon craft spirits maker Big Bottom Distilling.

Edrington re-acquires single malt whisky brand The Glenrothes from Berry Bros. & Rudd.

Trinchero Family Estates picks up Neyers Vineyards.

Jackson Family Wines adds Brewer-Clifton Winery to its portfolio.


Pernod Ricard acquires majority stake in Del Maguey mezcal.

Vintage Wine Estates buys Firesteed winery and brand.

Constellation Brands acquires Schrader Cellars.

Diageo buys Casamigos for $1 billion - initially paying $700 million, with another $300 million tacked on when/if it meets performance goals over the next 10 years.

Bacardi takes minority stake in Teeling Irish whiskey.


Moet Hennessy acquires Washington-based Woodinville Whiskey Co.

Pernod Ricard sells Glenallachie business to BenRiach founder Bill Walker and associates.

Heaven Hill acquires Carolans and Irish Mist brands from Campari ($165 million).


Deutsch Family buys Masterson's and Bib & Tucker whiskey brands from 3 Badge Beverage.

Duckhorn Wine acquires Calera Wine Co.

E&J Gallo buys California's Germain-Robin brand.


The owners of Silver Oak purchase Prince Hill Vineyard in Oregon's Willamette Valley.


Luxco Brands sells Meier's Wine Cellars to Paul Lux, the president of Meier's.

LVMH purchases 60% of Napa Valley-based Colgin Cellars.


Cuervo picks up Pendleton's from Hood River Distillers ($205 million).
